The sports coverage of Bloomington/Normal events provided through local cable has been a strong part of the community for over twenty years. An average of over eighty sports events per year are covered by ICN5 Sports.
Our full coverage means the entire game with multiple camera angles, graphics, replay and two announcers. Productions primarily consist of football, volleyball and both boys' & girls' basketball. When facilities allow, we occasionally cover soccer, wrestling and track & field.
ICN5 produces the InterCity High School Football Tournament annually at Illinois State University's Hancock Stadium and all ten games of the InterCity Boys' High School Basketball Tournament from the Shirk Center at Illinois Wesleyan University.
The events we select for television coverage are chosen based on team match-ups, facility accomodations for our truck; cameras; power to operate equipment; and, potential for additional telecasts in other cable markets outside of Bloomington/Normal. The most important factor in selecting an event is the ability to sell advertising to cover production costs. The advertisers are extremely important and make it possible to bring full local sports coverage on a large scale to the Twin Cities and across Central Illinois. We produce a unique product that is highly watched. It's "grass roots" sports and coverage of some of the most exciting sports events happening in Central Illinois.
